8 Annoying Low Carb Diet Myths
The low carb diet with its success, this in turn also brings some criticisms, or to be properly put, MYTHS. By the time you finish reading this article, we hope to have answered your burning questions and dispel with any form of doubt you had whether the low carb diet is really for you or not.
Below are 8 of the most common myths attributed to the low carb diet plan. These are not in any particular order:
1. They said that when Dr. Atkins died, so was the end of the low carb diet. For those that don’t know this, Dr. Atkins actually founded the ever popular Akins diet – well, named after him of course. But the fact is, Dr Atkins actually died of brain injuries as a result of a fall. As you can see, this has absolutely nothing to do with the diet plan itself. But it still doesn’t stop the myth circulating like wild fire.
2. Low carb diet will reduce the amount of calcium in your bone. What a joke. It has been scientifically proven that since the low carb diet plan is predominantly made of protein, this actually helps avoid the calcium entering your urine in the first instance in order to lose weight.
3. That low carb diet will damage your kidney. Well, this is the biggest myth of all. This is because the low carb diet, though rich in protein, the proportion advised in any particular meal is very negligible to cost irreparable damage to one’s kidney, not unless you suffer from kidney problems to start with. That’s why I’ve often encourage people wanting to get rid of the fat to always seek professional advice from their Doctors anyway before embarking on any weight loss or diet program or plans. It is known that some medical practitioners actually recommend the low carb diet for any patient with kidney problems.
4. Low carb diet equates to zero carbohydrates. Just because of the name, people assume that whilst on low carb diet, that means that no consumption of carbohydrates, period. But the fact is, it is recommended that everyone must have at least 45% to 65% of carbohydrates in any given meal. Even the most hardened and sceptic professionals will agree with this fact.
5. Low carb diet means bad breath for life. I must admit, because of the nature of the low carb diet plan whereby one consume less carbohydrates, there’s tendency to develop bad breath. But this is not a permanent feature as it can be remedied. Only a small minority of Low carb dieters experienced this anyway and it’s simply because of one thing- not eating enough vegetables and fruits. Even if one’s not on low carb diet, depriving yourself fruits and vegetables will result in you developing bad breath. To combat this, EAT MORE FRUITS and VEGETABLES than you currently take with your food.
6. If you’re on low carb diet, you’re risking immediate heart problems. Hey, all I can say to this is, just like the kidney scenario, if you suspect you have a heart problem, not just low carb diet plan, any diet or weight loss program is a major risk. Hence, again seek professional advice first. The fact is, the low carb diet actually reduces the risk of having a heart disease. We also know that even food with lots of animal fat and protein does not spell immediate danger with respect to heart disease.
7. Low carb diet contains little or no fibre. The low carb diet plan actually is full of Fibre which in turns lessens the effect of carbohydrates in the body. This is one of the main reasons why lots of people actually elect the low carb diet plan as their favourable diet plan.
8. Fruits and vegetables do not go with low carb diet. Hey, do you know that people on the low carb diet plan actually eat more fruits and vegetables the normal population. Most people generally don’t like or have the time to just sit down and eat fruits anyway. I can’t seem to understand that, especially when there’s nothing to it. Just sit down and eat, but we seem to favour other meals.
I hope this shed a better light and dispel off all those myth in order for you to start ving a better healthy life.
